The Federal Digital Academy was established in 2021 as part of the Federal Academy of Public Administration (BAköV) at the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community and is one of the key elements of the nine-point plan for a digital Germany developed by Dr Markus Richter, Federal CIO and State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community.
The Federal Digital Academy supports the digital transformation of the federal administration by providing cutting-edge qualification programmes. We help you learn the specific skills you need to master the challenges involved in digital transformation effectively. We help you to keep your digital skills up to date.
Our mission
Digital transformation involves significant changes regarding the tasks, working processes and organisational setup of the public administration. A new culture is finding its way into government offices. Both the general public and our younger employees have new expectations of “our” public administration. The Federal Digital Academy helps you to navigate the continuously arising new challenges of everyday life in the digital age. Our offerings provide IT, professional and organisational skills, promoting self-development skills and, not least, new leadership, cooperation and communication skills.
The "Federal Government’s digital literacy initiative"
- Promoting digital skills:
One of Federal Digital Academy's key tasks consists in supporting the digital transformation of the federal administration by grouping together the offerings and activities of BAköV that are relevant for digital transformation.
- Supporting cultural change:
BAköV’s training courses on leadership, New Work and change help to support the change process and cultural shift in the public administration on the basis of systemic personnel development.
- Building networks:
In the learning hub in Berlin, learners can interact and network in a modern environment. Federal Digital Academy provides the basis for inter-agency learning and networking.

In addition to online and in-person events, Federal Digital Academy also offers various digital learning formats on this platform. With this offering, Federal Digital Academy supplements the range of training courses offered by BAköV on the federal administration’s training portal, where you can find e-learning courses on various topics. The training portal is accessible only via the Networks of the Federal Government and is only accessible to federal employees.

At the beginning of each episode that is presented on the website, you will come across some key terms, technologies or methods which are related to digital transformation, and working situations which will undergo profound change as a result of digital transformation. Videos, animated films and other short presentations will provide you with basic information about new technologies and methods, new working requirements and innovative opportunities involved in digital transformation. While digital transformation is very important to us all, there is also a lot of fun involved. We want you to visit us voluntarily and with a smile on your face, not because you feel duty-bound to do so. You can access this information from your office, from home or by using your smartphone. You can join us on the journey no matter where you are working.

And if you want to learn more, not only will you find more detailed information on the individual topics on our website, but you can also take an even closer look at the topics and acquire relevant working skills by watching our videos, which present the training courses offered by Federal Digital Academy in the individual episodes, broken down according to target groups and task areas. We pull out all the stops, using our rich experience with e-learning offerings. We offer not only in-person seminars or workshops but also comprehensive online seminars, learning videos, e-learning programmes or other learning formats. These training courses provide you with the skills you need in the digital age. To whet your appetite, some of the episodes include short videos in which our lecturers give you a look into the learning objectives and content of the respective training courses.
Training
For specific functions (e.g. for leaders, project managers, chief digital officers) we have combined individual training courses to form comprehensive learning pathways which help employees working in these functions to acquire the new skills that they urgently need to deal with digital transformation.
